Sports Performance Coach

Reports to: Senior Director, Healthy Living

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $26-30/hour

Position Summary: This position will be responsible for planning, implementing and promoting private, semi-private and group sports performance trainings for youth, teens and young adults. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan and deliver private, semi-private and group classes according to standards of operations (dependent on coaching clients – Y, Parisi, etc.).
  2. Utilize software to schedule training sessions and plan out program structure.
  3. Build rapport with athletes and parents. Communicate athlete progress to parents.
  4. Arrive at the YMCA with adequate time to set up for class. Ensure all equipment is properly set-up, taken down, and put away in its designated location prior to and after class. Notify supervisor of any equipment needing repair.
  5. Create a healthy and safe environment while providing education and motivation to young athletes.
  6. Attend staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
  7. Ensure safe and effective workouts. Respond to and report all accidents and incidents to supervisor and Vice President of Programs using B.R. Ryall YMCA Incident Form.
  8. Discuss and promote all YMCA programs and events.
  9. Motivate participants and members to commit to long-term participation in YMCA programs.
  10. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  11. Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness or related field preferred.
  2. Post-secondary sports experience preferred.
  3. Complete the Parisi Speed School trainings and certification prior to coaching any Parisi clients.
  4. Personal training certification from a nationally accredited organization preferred. Additional personal training opportunities may be available to coaches who also hold a valid personal training certification.
  5. Maintain current CPR, AED, First Aid certifications.
  6. Must have good interpersonal, public relations, and communications skills.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
  8. Enthusiasm, a professional image, and the ability to empathize and support members and program participants from a wide variety of age groups and demographics.

Physical Demands: Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Coaches must be physically able to demonstrate any and all recommended exercises and routines. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position. Employees must be able to lift at least 45 pounds.
