Reports to: Senior Director of Healthy Living
Status: This role may be part-time or full-time based on experience/qualifications.
Pay: $28-$32/hour
Position Summary:
This position oversees the development, operations and tracking of all group exercise programming. This role is responsible for all aspects of group exercise programming including the hiring and supervision of group exercise instructors, and scheduling of group exercise classes to meet the needs and demands of Y members.
Essential Functions:
- Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises group exercise staff team.
- Oversees the daily operations of group exercise programming including schedules, offerings (live, virtual, Y360), and class reservations (if needed).
- Actively participates as a group exercise instructor, working with members and evaluating programming. Substitutes as a class instructor as needed.
- Executes strategies, activities and special exercise events to ensure that members engage with one another and connect with the YMCA—maximizing participation and member retention.
- Maintains attendance tracking and reports.
- Works with marketing to promote classes and special events, and maintain effective member communication.
- Executes Les Mills and group exercise launches when new releases are made.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of health, fitness and wellness programming.
- Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed, and that all group exercise areas are properly maintained and equipped.
- Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Represents and promotes the B.R. Ryall YMCA in the local community to increase visibility, and grow membership and class participation.
- Fulfills other duties as assigned to ensure an excellent member experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, human services, recreation or related field preferred.
- Must hold nationally recognized group exercise certifications (Les Mills strongly desired).
- 3+ years of professional experience in supervisory/program management experience.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Must have good interpersonal and oral and written communications skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications will be required; certifications in personal training and other areas of fitness and sports encouraged.
- Must be available to work nights and weekends.
Physical Demands:
Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Must be physically able to demonstrate any and all recommended exercises and routines. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
