Safe'n Sound Site Lead/School Age Program Coordinator

Reports to: Safe ‘n Sound Site Lead/School Age Program Coordinator

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $14.50-$15.50/hour

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Safe ‘n Sound Site Lead and/or School Age Program Coordinator, the Safe ‘n Sound Assistant Lead is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of 1 of our 9 school sites.  Assistant Leads must help promote the Safe ‘n Sound program name and positively impact the communities awareness on what the program offers. An Assistant Lead will be asked to develop relationships with the participants, parents and school staff in addition to communicating effectivity to each party listed above. An Assistant Lead must be dedicated to serving our Youth in the following the Y’s core values and in the areas of educational assistance, character development and social growth. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in the supervision and day-to-day direction of participants in the Safe ‘n Sound before and after school program at a designated site location.
  2. Assist the Site Lead in planning and executing daily activities including, but not limited to, home work time, snack, character development, group games and arts/crafts.
  3. Set up/clean-up site, as needed.
  4. Have direct involvement with children and act as mentor to program participants.
  5. Monitor, guide and redirect children’s behaviors, as necessary.
  6. Organize and maintain all equipment and supplies. Pick up supplies and snack from YMCA on a need be basis.


  1. Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED
  2. Two years of college coursework preferred or equal experience working directly with children in a group setting. Working towards a degree in education or related field a plus.
  3. Previous experience working with school age children a plus.
  4. Must have capacity to make decisions and communicate effectively with participants, parents and school staff.
  5. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  6. Must have a flexible schedule and able to work Monday – Friday between the hours of: 6:30 am – 9:00 am and then again from 3:15 pm – 6:00 pm.
  7. Applicants must have, or obtain, First Aid/CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment.

Physical Demands: Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position.  Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
