The City of Warrenville is seeking a skilled and motivated Utility Division Crew Leader to lead essential infrastructure operations with professionalism and purpose.

About the Role: The Utility Division Crew Leader plays a critical leadership role within the City of Warrenville’s Public Works Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the City’s water and sanitary sewer systems. The Crew Leader will spend the majority of the workday supervising Utility Division staff, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established City standards and procedures.

In addition to providing direct oversight and support to the crew, the Utility Division Crew Leader is responsible for planning, scheduling, and participating in the completion of utility-related construction, repair, and maintenance projects. This role requires strong leadership, a commitment to safety and service excellence, and a hands-on approach to maintaining vital City infrastructure. The Crew Leader is also expected to model and uphold City and departmental values, rules, and policies at all times.

What We’re Looking For:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced training in water maintenance (college or trade school) is preferred
  • 3–6 years of experience in Public Works maintenance and operations, ideally within a water utilities division
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of laws, codes, and infrastructure practices related to water and sewer systems, including safety protocols, equipment operation, and emergency response
  • Operational Proficiency: Skilled in reading and interpreting technical documents like plat maps and blueprints, conducting lab tests, analyzing data, and managing project planning and execution
  • Administrative Competence: Familiar with budgeting, purchasing, inventory control, record keeping, and applying union contract provisions in management functions
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to understand and deliver oral and written instructions, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and lead teams effectively under pressure
  • Technology & Learning Agility: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software tools, with the ability to learn new systems and stay up to date with evolving water and wastewater operations

Salary & Benefits:

  • Competitive full salary range of $82,066 - $112,841 per year and starting pay is based on qualifications.

Work Schedule: Generally, a Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm schedule, with coverage outside these hours as needed.

Special Requirements

State of Illinois Class B Water Operator’s License or a comparable certification acceptable to the State of Illinois. Class D Illinois driver’s license. CDL Class A driver’s license with appropriate endorsements, or possession within three (3) months of hire or transfer into position. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.
