Member Services Representative

Reports to: Membership Manager and Member Experience Manager

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $15.50-$16.50/hour

Position Summary: Provide superior high-touch service to YMCA members, program participants and the general public. The Member Services Representative is responsible for engaging with and assisting current and prospective members, providing quality tours and selling memberships effectively.

Essential Functions:

  1. Serves as a front line employee in a pivotal organizational role that is center of the Y.
  2. Provides exceptional customer service by greeting all members, program participants and general public in a friendly, professional manner; exceeds the expectations of our members and guests everyday.
  3. Initiates, develops, grows and maintains relationships with new and current members.
  4. Receives and properly routes telephone calls and inquiries and, if necessary, takes and communicates detailed messages.
  5. Conducts informative tours of the facility. Demonstrates knowledge of the facility and programs.
  6. Registers members and non-members for membership and programs; enters information correctly into the database and handles financial transactions.
  7. Understands thorough opening, closing and emergency procedures and executes as necessary.
  8. Uses appropriate problem-solving when dealing with issues, suggestions or concerns.
  9. Responsible for receiving communication via YMCA email to ensure properly prepared to offer great service to those serving. Reviews organizational calendars and is aware of all programs going on in the building.
  10. Properly completes all paperwork, registration forms, incident reports, memberships, etc.
  11. Completes other duties as assigned (i.e. cleans and picks up areas as needed, helps with facility maintenance, ensures COVID protocols are followed and enforced, etc.).


  1. Minimum of 1+ years of experience in customer service preferred.
  2. Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  3. Must possess high level of professionalism with exceptional communications and conflict resolution skills.
  4. Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  5. Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
  7. Must be able to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, night and weekends.
  8. Obtain CPR, AED and First Aid trainings within first 90 days of employment.

The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
  3. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  4. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
