JOB TITLE: Specialist - Payroll

SUMMARY: The responsibility of the Specialist - Payroll is to prepare, compile, review, reconcile, and maintain payroll data to ensure accuracy of payroll for employees of District 94.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)

 
  • Process, audit, and compile payroll data (i.e. hours worked, taxes, insurance, and union dues to be withheld, etc.).
  • Process annual salary data for all employees.
  • Process stipend and bonus payments (i.e. extra-curricular activity sponsors, coaches, multiple sport bonus, etc.).
  • Process voluntary insurance premiums, credit union contributions, tax-sheltered annuity contributions, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, professional dues, charitable donations, and wage attachments.
  • Compute and report allowable deductions for wage garnishments to county courts and creditors.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll checks.  Research and rectify irregularities. 
  • Monitor staff attendance activity for accurate recording on payroll check stub.
  • Direct deposit deductions and net earnings to savings and checking accounts.
  • Initiate electronic funds tax payments to the internal Revenue Service, TRS and IMRF.
  • Process and remit liability payments as required (i.e. annuity companies, county clerks, association treasurer, charitable organizations, etc.).
  • Process and report Federal, State, and Social Security tax liabilities and payments for governmental agencies on required cycles.
  • Record and monitor teaching hours and salary for substitute and retired teachers for Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) pension compliance.
  • Research current teaching activity performed in other districts by out-of-district coaches, and sponsors for TRS compliance.
  • Research and report employment and salary history required by financial loan institutions, apartment complex administrators, and worker’s compensation claims for active and former employees.
  • Organize and distribute annual W-2, Wage and Tax Statements.
  • Edit and process reports as required (i.e. TRS Report of Earnings and Pension Contributions, IMRF Report of Earnings and Pension Contributions, employment statistics to the Illinois Department of Employment Security Census Unit, fiscal year salary report, etc.).
  • Maintain and update annuity website, create, modify and upload data.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.

  • None
 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in accounting/payroll preferred
  • ?Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 
  • Must be able to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
  • ?Ability to work independently, stay on task, multi-task, and take responsibility to complete assigned projects and duties in a timely and efficient manner
 

PAY TRANSPARENCY
 
      This position offers a starting salary range of $55,000 to $65,000, with the final salary based on experience and qualifications. Pay scale and benefit information is available on our website HERE.
